TORONTO – The latest diss track in the hip-hop industry’s highest profile feud features Drake’s mother, Sandi Graham, personally requesting that rap superstar Kendrick Lamar stop saying such hurtful things to her son.
The new Drake single, “I Told My Mom On You”, drops following the Canadian hip-hop icon’s recent lawsuits alleging unfair collusion between Kendrick Lamar and Universal Music Group. Drake’s latest Kendrick diss track features guest verses by Young Thug, Gunna, and 64-year-old retired school teacher Sandi Graham.
“Mr. Lamar, while I understand that calling each other names is a big part of hip-hopping music, you have to take responsibility for how much your mean words have hurt my Aubrey’s feelings,” implored Ms. Graham over an ambient, slow-jam-like beat mixed by long time Drake producer Nineteen85.
Graham continues on her next verse, “I know that my son accused you of being not a very good rapper on his song ‘The Heart Part 6’, but that doesn’t make it okay for you to accuse him of being pedophile and sex trafficker on your song ‘Not Like Us’. That isn’t a very good way to make friends.”
Reactions to the Drake/ Lamar feud have divided the hip-hop community, with 99% of fans claiming a decisive victory by Compton native Kendrick Lamar, while the 1% of fans still supporting Drake are primarily composed of Drake’s immediate family members and staffers on his payroll.
“Drake was already losing to Kendrick by a mile,” explains Uproxx music editor Aaron Williams. “But at least the bars where his mom threatens to call Kendrick’s mom and get him grounded aren’t quite as embarrassing as seven seasons on Degrassi: The Next Generation.”
At press time, Canada has officially announced that the most famous rapper from Toronto is once again Snow.
