Following copyright issue The People’s Party of Canada changes name to Maxime Overdrive

– After a B.C. man filed a court challenge claiming that he owns the rights to the name The People’s of , the right wing political party founded by that has been using that name since ’s formation in September has decided to rename the party Maxime Overdrive.

“There is the copyright and trademark issues, yes, but more to the point, we realized that the use of the word ‘people’s’ was too inclusive,” Bernier said in a press conference to announce the name change. “We don’t want the wrong kind of people getting the idea that this party is for them.”

“We felt Maxime Overdrive lets everyone know what this party truly stands for: me, to the extreme.”

Numerous pundits and observers have pointed out that the name of Canada’s newest political party is very similar to Maximum Overdrive, a 1986 science fiction film in which motor vehicles become homicidal, but Bernier is adamant that he’s never seen the film and it did not inspire the party’s name.

“While I appreciate all stories about libertarian utopias where the government has disintegrated, either because it collapsed under the weight of bloated bureaucracy or was destroyed by killer trucks, I would never watch a movie starring an actor so committed to radical multiculturalism that he refuses to change his name from Estevez to Sheen,” Bernier said.

In addition to the name change, Maxime Overdrive has also announced it’s creating a new agricultural program to encourage to get involved in the ethanol industry, of the Corn.
