The details of Trump’s Memorandum Of Understanding with Iran have finally been released. Here is everything you need to know.
1. The deal is a 14 point plan, one point for every time Trump previously announced a deal to end the war
2. The deal accomplishes the main war goal of the U.S. No, not toppling the Iranian government or gaining control over its oil, but reopening the Strait of Hormuz that was only closed as a result of the war
3. The war in Iran was “worth it” because of the positive effects of the Deal according to Mark Carney, who then added “thousands of civilian deaths are basically a rounding error”
4. The Iranians will receive billions of dollars in unfrozen assets, hundreds of billions to rebuild, and likely trillions in oil profits since Trump is also removing sanctions on their oil. But before you go around saying things like “Trump caved” remember that they will also get to keep making ballistic missiles.
5. Iran will “discuss” doing away with its stockpile of enriched uranium. They will also discuss not doing that.
6. The ceasefire deal includes protections for Lebanon and its territorial integrity. This is a key provision that will allow innocent Lebanese civilians to begin rebuilding their lives and look forward to a potential peaceful future and Israel just started bombing them again while I was typing this.
7. Iran will not charge tolls on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz for 60 days. Were they charging tolls on ships at all before they were bombed you ask. Look shut up do you want the ceasefire or not?
