Liberals promise anti-democratic components of Bill C-5 will be used sparingly as long as Conservatives never get in power again

OTTAWA – Shortly after jamming through a law that allows Cabinet to ignore Parliamentary Accountability for energy projects, Liberal MPs are confident that these provisions will only be used in the most rare of circumstances, as long as the Conservative Party Of Canada never takes power ever again for even a moment.

“Sure giving Cabinet the power to ignore Indigenous Groups, Parliament and the need for literally any environmental oversight seems like the kind of thing that could be abused quite easily,” said Energy Minister Tim Hodgson. “But since we promise not to do it much, and we’ll be in power forever and ever, Canadians shouldn’t be too concerned.”

“Historically, there just aren’t any examples of right-wingers using the mechanisms of power created by centrists to do really fucked up shit.”

The bill controversially allows Cabinet to ignore basically all laws, something that would likely come in handy should a Conservative government wanted to say, force through a pipeline project that was terrible for the environment.

“Wait, you’re saying the laws we pass stay on the books even after we’re out of power? Oh man I had no idea,” said one MP who wished to remain anonymous.

At press time ’s cackling could be heard from outer space.
