NEW YORK STATE – In the wake of several progressive Democratic primary victories, American pundits have expressed extreme concern over the victors’ “far left politics” despite those Democrats effectively being soft Poilievre Conservatives if they were to run in Canada.
“These Mamdani-backed communists want to destroy democracy and institute breadlines!” proclaimed the Wall Street Journal’s editorial board of candidates who advocate for housing affordability and lower health care costs, positions who would be seen as firmly conservative in Canada.
Beyond the American media class, Democratic Party leadership is warning about the “insurgent leftist” primary challengers who would be unrecognizable on the entire Canadian spectrum. “We are asking these fiery socialists to moderate their bizarre beliefs,” explained House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, describing utterly milquetoast beliefs by Canadian standards. “Extreme beliefs such as ‘corporations should pay taxes’ and insider trading by members of congress is a bad thing’.”
Meanwhile, Canadian observers have struggled to fully grasp the five-alarm panic being exhibited by American political elites.
“These so-called ‘democratic socialists’ running for the US Congress make Danielle Smith look like Jack Layton,” explained University of Toronto Political Science professor Herman Kaering. “If New York’s Brad Lander was a Canadian MP, he would probably cross the floor to a truly Conservative party, like Mark Carney’s Liberals.”
At press time, Tucker Carlson has launched an asylum claim in Canada in the wake of New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s recent rent freeze.
