OTTAWA – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has reported feeling indignantly outraged that “nobody in power is doing anything” to combat housing unaffordability after watching a recent Poilievre campaign video on the topic.
“Did you know that an entire generation of young Canadians can no longer afford the down payment on a home? I had no idea whatsoever until just 15 minutes ago,” implored Trudeau to the nearest staffer.
“Why isn’t anybody doing anything to fix this,” he muttered to himself while sitting in the Prime Minister’s office on Parliament Hill.
Upon watching the video released last November by the leader of the Official Opposition, Trudeau has declared himself “absolutely onboard” with the widely-documented wave of growing anger at how housing costs across the country have outpaced earnings for every day Canadians.
“Oh, I’m fired up alright,” Trudeau insisted. “Maybe I should write an angry letter to my MP!”
Upon learning of the issue, Prime Minister Trudeau immediately called a press conference to show reporters the video, “So they too can finally learn about how rents and mortgages have skyrocketed at an unsustainable rate over the past several years.”
“I mean, the video doesn’t mention any thing about how housing speculators, corporate landlords, REITs, provincial governments, foreign money launders, and decades of Federal housing policy are probably also to blame for housing unaffordability, but I imagine they’re saving that for the sequel video,” Trudeau added.
To the assembled crowd of reporters Prime Minister Trudeau vowed to use every tool at his government’s disposal to get to the bottom of how those in power allowed Canadian housing to become so unaffordable, “provided it doesn’t require us to change Liberal policy in any way whatsoever.”
Reached for comment, Pierre Poilievre responded, “Now that all Canadians are waking up to the realities of housing unaffordability, I hope this leads them to elect me so that I can immediately enact policies to make it exponentially worse.”
