GUELPH, ON – With the campaign for the Premiership of Ontario now well underway, Ontario Green Party leader Mike Schreiner revealed that he is still undecided as to which party will earn his vote on June 7th.
“I want to vote Green, I really do, but this election’s important,” Schreiner said from inside his campaign headquarters. “Don’t get me wrong, I really like where I stand on most of the issues and I have a lot of swell ideas, but on the other hand, there’s no way I can stop Doug Ford.”
The 48-year-old Schreiner has been provincial leader of the Green Party for the past 9 years and readily concedes he will never wield any political power due to his role as provincial leader of the Green Party for the past 9 years – a fact which has the Guelph candidate weighing his options at the ballot box.
“I agree with the NDP platform to expand dental care to all workers, but I worry about their broader economic policy, especially encouraging cheaper gasoline. And I like the Liberal proposal to reserve $79 billion for province-wide public transit projects, but 15 years is a long time to be in government with scandal after scandal” said Schreiner, adding: “Man, I really wish we had proportional representation.”
Still, the Green Party has its share of diehard supporters. To them, Schreiner had some words of advice: “For the love of God, cut that shit out right now and vote strategically.”
