TORONTO – After delivering an uninspired effort in Game 4 that saw them fall behind 3-1 in their first round series against the Boston Bruins, the Toronto Maple Leafs took time to promise their fans that this is in fact the best they can do.
“Can’t question the effort,” said head coach Sheldon Keefe. “Our fans should take solace in the fact that we are about to lose in 5 to a weak Bruins team not because of something fixable like hustle, but because we are a fundamentally flawed hockey team.”
“And no, we won’t be making any changes to our power play so stop asking.”
Facing a must win Game 4 the Leafs appeared, to the untrained eye, listless and unmotivated. But the team wanted fans to know that this is just what they should expect from a team featuring multiple all-stars, and frankly they are dumb for expecting anything more.
“We’re trying our best,” said Mitch Marner. “We have a good gameplan to stay to the outside and float easy shots on net with no one in front, and we just need to stick with it.”
Team President Brendan Shanahan has told fans not to worry however. If the Leafs do fall to the Bruins there will finally be the massive changes the team needs, including 1-2 new assistant coaches and maybe even a new 6th Defenceman signed.
