TORONTO – In the wake of CEO Tobi Lutke endorsing an electoral system in which votes are allocated based on how much income tax you pay, e-commerce platform Shopify has announced that customers can put in promo code PLUTOCRACY for 10% off any order on any store that uses the platform.
“At Shopify we believe in 3 things,” said company representative Marcy Topp. “Sleek web designs that work on mobile and desktop, an efficient, secure checkout process, and a system of government in which the lower classes get no say over the direction their country should take. Lutke has defended his reasoning, saying it is the kind of forward, out of the box thinking that allowed him to create Shopify in the first place.
“We shouldn’t be constrained by antiquated notions of ‘equality’ or ‘constitutional rights’. We need to move forward, into the future. And the best way to do that is to adopt the electoral system of Ancient Rome and pre-Revolutionary France.”
