NEW YORK CITY – Canadian PM Justin Trudeau appeared on The Late Show yesterday, where he and host Stephen Colbert got to enjoy reminiscing on how cool they were 8-10 years ago.
“My next guest was also very popular with young, progressive millennials from the mid 2000s through 2016,” said Colbert, unfortunately not in character as the guy from the Colbert Report that everyone really loved.
“Please welcome the man once hailed as the future of Liberal politics just like I was hailed as the future of satire: Justin Trudeau!”
After some quick discussion about Canada’s role in the world and the future of the UN, the two then settled in for a lively chat about what it was like in the glory days of the early 2010s.
“Remember when you were still doing razor sharp comedy that perfectly exposed media flaws and societal ills while I was a young, on the rise politician that was going to totally change Canadian political life for the better?” asked Trudeau before Colbert responded with a long, soft “yeah.”
“And look at us now.”
The segment ended with both of them sitting in silence while staring at the middle distance for two minutes.
