Baha Men abandon multi-year investigation into who let the dogs out

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – After beginning a fruitless investigation into the identity of the person (or persons) who released 48 dogs from a Bahaman dog pound during a party in March 2000, international consulting detectives, the Baha Men, announced today that after eighteen years, they are giving up their search.

“When we first started, we only knew that when the dogs were released, the party was pumping,” explained Rik Carey, the lead vocalist of the Baha men, adding that, before the incident, everyone was having a ball. “But after that, the leads dried up pretty quickly.”

“Once we ran out of clues, we investigated the situation the only way we knew how,” added Baha Man Isaiah Taylor. “By asking everyone in the world, over and over, who let the dogs out, until someone would finally tell us the truth, yippee-i-oh.” Their appeal to the public for aid in the investigation has drew 24 weeks in the number one position on the charts and over 33 million views on YouTube, but so far no one has stepped forward with definitive evidence leading to the identity of the perpetrator.

It is considered a severe crime to let the dogs out in the Bahamas,  an archipelago with a population of just under 400,000 people, usually known for tourism and finance. “It took 45 minutes to round up those dogs and put them back in the pound,” said one Bahaman legal expert. “If we found the person who did this, they would face severe consequences, possibly even the death penalty.”

Since abandoning the search for the dog releasers, the Baha Men have turned their attention to finding out the origin and current whereabouts of Cotton Eye Joe.
