OTTAWA — While voting has begun as of September 18, political strategists report that they’re pretty sure there is still time for you to run for leader of the NDP if you complete and hand in the necessary paperwork.
“It’s pretty easy,” said election consultant Jasmine Haisley when reached for comment, “You just need get some signatures, register with Elections Canada, and pay a small fee. You could do that in an afternoon, if you wanted to.”
While you may not have made any plans to join the NDP leadership race, the mounting evidence suggests you only need to skim the rules on the party’s website and make a couple social media pages to run against Jagmeet Singh, Niki Ashton, and the other ones.
Experts also advise giving Dave from CAW Local 783 a call, as without support from organized labour, it can be tough to get someone at short notice to set up the sound for your campaign launch at the local library.
But not everyone thinks it’s as easy as it sounds. “Writing your policy proposals can take as much as two hours, unless you’re really good at formatting,” said longtime campaign volunteer Justin Woo, “And you have to ensure your entire wardrobe goes well with orange. That’s the tricky thing.”
“It’s worth the effort, though,” Woo continued, “I think you’d make a great candidate”.
Currently your supporters include some university friends and a couple coworkers. Your mother has also committed to matching campaign donations up to $100, putting you ahead of everybody except Jagmeet Singh.
