TORONTO – The Ontario Liberals attempt turn a new page with Ontarians hit a snag today after they somehow spent $120 million more than intended on the announcement for their Throne Speech.
“Today the provincial Liberals announced a bold step forward for all Ontarians,” said Wynne’s chief of staff Tom Teahan. “Unfortunately, and we’re not entirely sure how, we seem to have spent approximately 8000% the usual budget for a parliamentary speech.”
“We are quite confident this is Mike Harris’ fault probably.”
According to the budget for the announcement, the Wynne Liberals spent $34 million on two consultants who were tasked with ensuring the printed text from the Speech was on the right colour of paper; white. However, a further audit revealed that the work was not completed and a second set of consultants had to be hired for another $34 million.
The liberals also paid $5 million to a subcommittee for choosing a font, $10 million to softwood lumber subsidies so that they’d provide the paper the speech was written on at a discount and $100 million to hire 25 interpretive dancers from the National Ballet of Canada to perform the announcement.
“Investing in the future of this province is our priority,” said Premier Wynne echoing the new government’s motto which was posted on a diamond and ruby studded billboard outside Queen’s Park.
However, the Liberals assured Ontarians that the situation is under control as they can “totally” cover the cost of the speech by selling Hydro One.
