OTTAWA – The Official Opposition has claimed that an attack on a Muslim woman in a London, Ontario grocery store could have been prevented if the accused had access to a Barbaric Cultural Practices Tip Line, a Conservative election promise made last year.
“Had we been elected, Canadians would be able to call and report about Muslims and other minorities they fear rather than committing an unprovoked assault,” explained Kellie Leitch, Conservative Health Critic. “But, the Liberals have not established a hotline for people to call and vent their vague suspicions about a neighbours’ niqab or a family fasting for Ramadan. This information could’ve been reported to the RCMP for investigation, but the government clearly let this vigilant woman down.”
The Tories claim that this was not the first time the tip line could have been used to validate people’s xenophobia rather than feeling the need to express it by themselves.
“It is not the job of citizens to violate an individual’s freedom of choice; leave that to the government,” Leitch added.
