TORONTO – CBC’s News Now production meeting was running long until chief editor brilliantly suggested adding the word ‘gate’ to the main noun of the major story to simplify the whole complex scandal into a more manageable concept for the nation.
“Sources tell us that Stephen Harper has been using public funds to renovate a garden gate on the grounds of 24 Sussex Drive,” said Timothy Neal, editor of the National on the CBC. “We were looking for an angle on the story and it hit me – ‘Gate-gate.’ As long as we add the term ‘gate’ to our subject everyone understands this is a major issue that should cause debate and discussion.”
“We were thinking of using something like ‘Major Of-fence of Power,’ but the decision was clear with Gate Gate.”
Neal has also prepared ‘Armageddon-geddon’ should the situation in Russia result in the end of the world.
