TORONTO – The Liberal Party of Ontario has announced that it will hold off selecting a leader until the 2022 provincial election is over.
The pocket-sized party whose entire caucus can fit comfortably inside a Dodge Caravan was expected to vote on a leader in March, but have since changed their minds after seeing the party with a four point lead over the Tories and even more ahead of the NDP.
“We have done a lot of work by allowing Doug Ford and his PCs to self-destruct,” said interim leader John Fraser. “Plus, I’m really enjoying the perks of going to restaurants with all of the Liberal MPPs and not having to pay a mandatory tip because we’re not considered a large party.”
Party leadership candidates agreed that knowing who was going to lead the party and specific policies they would champion are questions that should be answered after voters put them back in office.
“We are likeable when no one knows who we are or what we stand for,” explained leadership hopeful Steven Del Duca to members of the press. “Do you know who I am? Neither do I! But if we keep holding off on choosing a leader, there’s a good chance one of us will be premier.”
In lieu of an actual leader for the leadership debates, the Liberals will just let Premier Ford talk.
