MONTREAL – Municipal election season is hiring season for construction firms in Montreal, coincidentally.
“It’s been a rough summer for us,” said SNC Lavalin CEO Robert G Card. “A lot of our best workers were forced to resign. For a while, it looked like we would have nobody to negotiate municipal contracts.”
But Card is reassured by the recent spike in applications to fill these positions.
“Just yesterday I was walking down the street to our offices and was overwhelmed by the number of people expressing an interest in joining our company,” he enthusiastically exclaimed.
“People aren’t just mailing in CVs like they used to,” Card added. “They’re going all out: posting their applications on lamp posts so we can’t miss them, with colour pictures, slogans, and websites. It’s remarkable.”
In order to restart negotiations with the city as soon as possible, SNC Lavalin hopes to have selected its newest employees by the time municipal election results are announced on November 3rd.
