Tory MP calls for end of lock down claiming Canada shamefully behind US on COVID death count

HAMILTON – Flamborough—Glanbrook MP David Sweet is calling the province of to end the lockdown so Canada can catch up to the US on its death count.

“22,000 dead compared to over 500,000 is shamefully pathetic,” scorned Sweet. “We can’t settle for mediocrity during an international crisis.”

America has been the world’s viral engine producing over 30 million cases in one year compared to Canada’s paltry count of just under 900,000.

“There is a lack of commitment from the federal and provincial governments to produce variants domestically,” added Sweet. “There’s a UK variant, a South Africa variant, a Southern California variant…where’s the Canada variant?”

Canada is underperforming G7 nations like France, Italy, and the UK when comes to recklessly abandoning its most vulnerable in a morally corrupt effort to reopen the economy, explained Sweet.

The Conservative MP also has concerns about how the lockdown has impacted people’s mental health.

“Young people are alone, waiting at home for their inheritance from a relative who might go on living for years! That is a very depressing prospect.”

In response, the Conservative said that they will continue to support people’s mental health, while cutting mental health services to balance a budget.
