TORONTO – The Metro Toronto Zoo announced Monday that they had received two Chinese inmates to carry out a 5 year sentence as part of an exchange program with the government of China.
The captives, Er Shun and Da Mao, who appeared to media at Pearson International Airport in standard prisoner black and white, were transported after their flight from Beijing to a holding cell at the zoo for immediate quarantine and inspection.
“Thank you to the government of China for this wonderful gesture of trust,” said Prime Minister Stephen Harper at Pearson after the fanfared arrival of the condemned.
“This signals a closer partnership between our two nations, as we increasingly see eye-to-eye on issues of trade, resource development and criminal justice.”
China’s ambassador to Canada, Zhang Junsia, appreciated the reception given by the Government of Canada and Federal Express for the delivery of these, “V.I.P.s: Very Important Prisoners.”
Er Shun and Da Mao once occupied an area in the Schezuan province of mainland China before Government forces took control of the area and placed them in an internment camp. One of the conditions of their exchange was for Canada to continue the Chinese imposed forced breeding program of its cutest prisoners.
In a spirit of reciprocity, yesterday Canada delivered its own high profile prisoner to China. However, Paul Bernardo’s arrival did not receive the type of fanfare authorities had hoped for.
