OTTAWA – The National Energy Board is not doing enough to make sure pipeline companies are complying with regulations, says a new report by the federal commissioner of the environment and sustainable development, who for some reason has not been bought and paid for.
“The National Energy Board was not able to assure us that they followed up on the regulations or the approval conditions,” said commissioner Julie Gelfand, who might be sitting on a beach somewhere instead of breathing down our ass if someone had done their goddamn job and gotten to all the people they were supposed to get to.
Commissioner Gelfand found that in almost half the cases she audited, records of the pipeline companies’ compliance was either missing or out of date, which just goes to show that you have to make damn sure that everybody’s getting a piece next time, not just the low-level dipshits.
This is not the first time that a government official has found serious fault with the regulatory oversight of Canada’s oil industry, but it damn well better be the last time, Rodrigo, or I’m going to find a bagman who can get me some fucking results.
