CALGARY – Journalists who visited the residency claimed by UPC Leader Jason Kenney for a housing allowance found a man who suspiciously resembled Jason Kenney wearing a wig and a night gown claiming to be his mother.
“Why yes, I am Jason’s mother,” said Kenney to reporters, impersonating an old woman’s voice. “And yes, I have been living here for a very, very long time with my lovely son. He was very popular with Gertrude, Ethyl, and the bridge club.”
When asked about his attempted ruse, the former federal cabinet minister never broke his geriatric Mrs. Doubtfire character.
“We really do look alike, I know,” said Kenney. “He is such a good boy. I am so proud of him. He would never abuse his housing allowance. After all, the rules don’t say anything that I – I mean my son – couldn’t claim $10,000 a year for a second residence.”
The press conference abruptly ended when the 50-year-old posing as a 92-year-old was chased away by retirement home staff who threatened to call the police if he returns again for another media conference.
The investigation into Kenney’s murky claim was later dropped after Parliament’s Board of Internal Economy issued a statement declaring that Kenney seemed like the type of guy who would still live with his parents.
