Military budget cuts force soldier to play Last Post on recorder

EDMONTON – Budget cuts to the Royal Canadian Artillery Band has forced one of its musicians to perform the Last Post using a recorder commandeered from a grade 3 class.

All instruments from the 35 piece Brass/Reed Parade Band had been sold to Greece to be spent on defence procurement delays, but the show had to go on with whatever they could find.

Fortunately, the band had one triangle player who was a recorder prodigy in elementary .

After a respectful ceremony, the band went on to perform ‘Hot Cross Buns’ despite the drumline being diminished to five salt-shakers and a Fisher-Price Xylophone.
