EDMONTON – United Conservative Party MLA Derek Fildebrandt has posted his Legislative office on the short-term lodging website Airbnb a day after admitting to double-dipping on his government subsidized condo in Edmonton.
For $110/night, visitors can stay in his 5th floor office at 10800 97 Ave NW, also known as the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
“This is all [just a normal] part of the sharing-government-expenses economy,” said the UCP member representing Strathmore-Brooks. “This smear campaign against how I make money off of the people of Alberta is distracting us from the real issues.”
The Airbnb ad boasts about a view of the North Saskatchewan River, a photocopier/printer/scanner/fax machine, a wooden desk for sleeping, a bathroom down the hall, and [is only] “a short walk from the Speaker’s Chair.” It also comes with free office supplies and business cards.
According to the first visitors, the wifi password is “F*ckNotley.”
Fildebrandt said he should be praised for his entrepreneurial spirit and free market philosophy.
The 31-year-old also defended his “resourcefulness” in turning his constituency office in Brooks into a trendy weekend bar during its off-hours.
“Exploiting taxpayers money for my own financial gain is just a millennial thing to do,” added the former employee of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.
