ST. JOHN’S – With the announcement that Twitter will shut down its popular video sharing app Vine, local woman Angela MacIsaac, 31, has expressed relief that she no longer feels obligated to figure out what Vine is.
“I think it was for videos, but different than YouTube I guess,” mused MacIsaac, who had repeatedly reminded herself to investigate the looping video platform since its 2012 inception. While investigating the use and function of Vine would have required a six second investment of time, MacIsaac managed to avoid doing so for 4 full years, citing work, family, and Netflix commitments.
Questioned why she avoided learning to watch or use the Vine platform, MacIsaac cited time previously used to learn Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, Facebook Live, Twitter, YikYak, Tumblr, MySpace, and even Friendster.
“I’m only one human being,” lamented MacIsaac.
Despite Vine’s popularity among millions of subscribers, and the fame of “Vine stars” such as Lele Pols and KingBach, MacIsaac has expressed only minimal regret over missing out on an entire online phenomenon.
“My grandma doesn’t even know how to turn her computer on is,” said MacIsaac, “and she’s pretty happy. Maybe she’s got it all figured out.”
