EDMONTON — Speaking to dozens of unemployed oilsands workers, Prime Minister Stephen Harper explained that the workers maybe ‘technically’ unemployed, but in reality they are ‘practically’ employed.
“While economist at liberal universities may say you are unemployed, that is only because you have no work or means to support your family,” Harper said wearing a Conservative Party decaled hard hat. “But, statistically speaking, from a macroeconomic level, it’s not that bad.”
Harper then pulled out a chart illustrating how GDP actually rose in June by 0.5% percent, which could have been their new job had they worked in another industry.
“You see? Everything is fine in general terms unless you look at every industry except housing.”
At press time, Harper was checking what EI benefits he would get if he ever lost his job.
