OTTAWA – As part of their continued desire to maintain a journalism free zone around the PM, the PMO has announced this week that while cameras may continue to attend the Prime Minister’s speaking events all journalists and other attending persons will be asked to wait outside.
“We feel that this is the right choice,” said PMO Director of Communications Rob Nicol. “Cameras don’t have have politics or emotions, making them far more truthful than journalists. A camera is incapable of biased thought, or thought of any kind really.”
The updated media policy asks that cameras be placed at the doorway to any event with their media pass securely attached, while all media personnel stand at least ten feet back in the “Information-free Zone.”
“All cameras will, of course, be handled by PMO staffers,” said Nicol. “It’s better this way. Our staff are all specially trained to capture Stephen’s good side.”
In a media release addressing the issue, Stephen Harper emphasized that the government still supports freedom. “This Government is a staunch supporter of civil liberties. The people’s freedom to see photo-ops of me with a dog, or rockin’ out with my band, remain of paramount importance.”
At press time, one rogue camera had been banned from future events for “biased coverage” when its faulty white-balance caused the Prime Minister look like a scary ghost.
