MONTREAL — Montreal’s annual Fringe Festival kicked off last week and already, Montrealers everywhere are hard at work preparing excuses not to go to their friend’s performances.
One such friend, Nathan Cole explained that he has been absolutely swamped working on his excuse not to go to his friend Amanda’s comedy show. “I’ve been practicing it in the mirror three or four times a week. I’m seeing a lot of improvement, but there are still a few things about my performance that need tweaking. The pacing is a bit off, but as long as I hit all my cues, I should be fine. I can adlib if I need to.”
This is Cole’s fourth performance of his song and dance entitled “A Previous Engagement.”
“It’s been such a journey and I just hope Amanda will appreciate how much time and thought went into this excuse. I’m doing it because I love her and because I just really, really don’t want to go to her show.”
At press time, Cole had sent his excuse back to his writer for a punch-up and was rethinking his costuming for the big day.
