TORONTO – 33-year-old Canadian actor David Allister reached his realistic life goal earlier this week when he was booked for a spot on a Tim Hortons commercial.
The 30-second ad features Allister for five seconds, handing a bag of Tim Hortons pastries through a drive through window, flashing a grin, and saying “these just came out of the oven.”
“After years of acting classes and poorly attended Fringe plays, I finally feel like I’ve made it in show business,” said Allister.
“Canadian show business,” he quickly added.
Allister was already preparing for how his new found fame would change his day to day life, including people on elevators looking at him curiously as they try to figure out where they recognize him from, as many as five congratulatory texts from friends after they see the commercial, and his elderly relatives mistakenly thinking he actually works at a Tim Hortons. However, he had pledged to not let it affect his personality.
“It’s like that Horace Greely quote: ‘fame is a vapor, popularity an accident, and riches take wings. Only one thing endures and that is character’” said Allister before finishing his smoke break and heading back to work at Starbucks.
At press time, the ad’s marketing agency had decided to scrap Allister’s part and replace his footage with that of an actor that looks more ‘multicultural.’
