Vancouver, BC – The newest romantasy, Wings of Passion, is incredibly graphic in its specificity about dragon sex.
Sarah Butler was excited to read the newest novel by author Becky Yates. The third novel in the Firmament Series, Wings of Passion continues to explore the world of a woman over the age of consent as she discovers true love and earth-shattering government secrets. Butler had set the mood with a glass of wine, rose petals on the bed, and her vibrator on full charge.
It soon became clear this book had a different perspective. The other books in the series expressed how passionate and erotic dragon sex could be, but they glossed over specifics saying it was the realm of dragons and that it wasn’t the business of humans. However, this one provided graphic scene after graphic scene of what the sex of these smart, emotional, and deadly mythical beasts entails.
“Shenron lashes out his long, strong tongue to lick and swirl Éabha where her scales switch from rough to soft and wet. She lets out a gasp as her body goes rigid from pleasure and smoke erupts from her nasal passages,” Butler read aloud as her own heartbeat began to rise. “As they fly up into the sky, their bodies entwined until they look like a single ball of fire. Lightning flashes as they pound into each other, and in the last waves of orgasm Éabha shoots out an egg.”
Fans took to #BookTok to discuss how they felt about the turn from human passions to the erotic world of dragons. The reactions were mixed. Some were excited to finally know where baby dragons come from, and others wished Yates stuck with the tone of the first two books. “I found that it was still hot enough that I was able to polish the pearl,” said Jordan Mets. “I’m just glad it didn’t take a turn into beastiality cause I just can’t picture human-dragon sex being hot.”
Yates has defended her choice in interviews and on social media. “As a romantic author first, It’s illogical for me not to explore all sides of love-making in this fantasy world I created,” explained Yates. “The romantic tension had been built up to a breaking point in previous books. I have to keep a proportionate amount of steam and what’s steamier than two dragons going at it.”
At press time, romantasy authors and publishers were scrambling to figure out what other creatures’ sexual exploits middle-aged women would be interested in reading about.
