OTTAWA – In a move that caught lawmakers and everyday Ottawans off guard, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took time out of his busy schedule attending multicultural events, food festivals, and parades to make a surprise visit to Ottawa, a little-known medium-sized town that doesn’t frequently see the Prime Minister visit.
“Usually between Vancouver and Calgary on the one side and Toronto and Montreal on the other, he just passes right over us,” says longtime resident Sheila Roy. “It’s nice for him to take an interest in what our little town is all about.”
The day prior Trudeau had attended an all day Sikh street festival in Calgary followed by an Uyghur Dumpling festival and meditation ceremony in West Vancouver, after which he flew back across the country overnight to make the surprise visit happen.
“To be honest, we were a little confused about the timing of his visit,” says Phil Annette of the Ottawa Tourism Board. “Blues Fest already happened last month, the Pride parade is over, and he just missed Rib Fest. But we’re thrilled to have him here nonetheless.”
“Oh god, I hope he’s not here because we’re having a By-Election soon. We’re not very political here.”
According to the official schedule provided by the PMO, while in Ottawa Trudeau plans to take in some of the historic sights, including the Parliament Buildings, and 24 Sussex, a stately Victorian style mansion where Canadian Prime Ministers once lived.
Trudeau has also blocked out a 2 hour session in the afternoon closed to reporters to meet with local lawmakers as well as a number of federal politicians who for some reason happen to be there during the same time.
In related news, congregants of a small town church that regularly preaches anti-LGBTQ messages were getting kind of sick of Pierre Poilievre at this point.
