CALGARY -—During a friend’s birthday party at O’Malley’s bar, 30-year-old, recently married marketing consultant Annie Pierre has reportedly assured upwards of 12 attendees that, despite her refusal of alcohol, she is not expecting a baby.
Pierre’s comments reportedly began shortly after her host offered her a glass of wine, to which she responded, “no thanks, just water.”
“From that moment, I could tell something was different about her” Pierre’s colleague Leah Johnston told reporters. “Then she immediately made this weird joke about not being pregnant. Which is exactly what a pregnant person would say.”
Pierre reportedly continued to assert that she was “just trying to be a bit healthier” to friends, acquaintances, a coworker who had been asking about it for several weeks, and multiple strangers as the evening progressed.
“I told her the next round was on me and asked her what she was drinking,” Ian Harlow, a friend of Pierre’s husband, stated. “Then I asked her if she was off the booze because she had something exciting planned for nine months from now, and she told me no.”
“Weird. I thought I was pretty clear I meant ‘are you pregnant?’”, Harlow stated. “I guess she must have misunderstood me. Anyway, glad to see those two are starting a family.”
Despite numerous comments of support, Pierre also received some concern from others present.
“I asked her whether she prefers Perrier to club soda, and she just started talking about how her IUD was still in right out of nowhere,” acquaintance Reena Sepley told reporters. “Then she started talking about how her and her husband were ‘really enjoying couples time’.”
“Honestly it was a little weird,” bartender Loudon Stein stated. “She ordered a water and then just said ‘not because I’m pregnant’. Then she started telling me about this new diet she was on.”
“It was almost like she assumed I was entitled to and expected an explanation about why she was or wasn’t pregnant,” Stein added. “Anyway, I recommended a soda stream.”
At press time, several party guests had bought Pierre’s husband drinks to congratulate him on becoming a dad.
