We should all be very proud of our nation’s contributions to the Oscar nominations because nearly 4/5ths of all Oscar nominated films have been seen by someone in Canada.
Yes, some hardworking and creative Canadians saw at least one or more of the nine nominated films for Best Picture, and over half of Canada can name at least one actor featured in the films. That’s an accomplishment that deserves a pat on the back, Canada!
Sure, there’s some actual Canadians nominated for an Academy Award, but that’s not as important as the sheer national effort of those who watched Allison Janney in a stellar supporting actress performance in “I, Tonya” in theatres, or marvelled at wartime visual effects on a pirated version “Dunkirk” from their laptops.
And there’s Sally Hawkins, who’s British, which pretty much makes her a Canadian because we have the same Queen! We’re also pretty sure she’s visited here once before.
That’s something to be proud of, eh?
Canada has been really supportive of these movies, which counts for something, and is therefore newsworthy.
Rumour has it CBC is currently developing a five-part mini-series on the Canadian cousin of the guy who was the assistant to the key grip in the movie ‘Fifty Shades Darker.’ We can’t wait to watch it!
