TORONTO – Alexandra Adkins couldn’t go to a TIFF gala on Friday night, but the enterprising young woman managed to find a suitable alternative: standing in line outside The Porch nightclub on Adelaide Street.
“I can almost see the line for Amy Adams’ Will This Holocaust Drama Finally Get Me My Oscar from here,” she said, “so it’s basically the same thing.”
While the black-and-white film is 240 minutes long, audience members had been in line for eight hours, and Adkins was confident she could reproduce that experience.
“Sure there are only ten people in line outside this bar,” she said. “But I just keep letting people go in so I can continue to stand outside in the rain and get the full TIFF experience.I don’t need to see movies to participate in TIFF. They’ll all be on Rogers on Demand in three months, but the orderly queuing only comes once a year.”
At press time, Adkins was drenched and had been on her feet for at least six hours, but she was vaguely confident that she had seen Orlando Bloom’s third cousin twice removed while standing in line.
