MONTREAL – Far-right wing groups are calling for the immediate removal of any statues, busts, or dedications to Canada’s first Prime Minister after learning that he was born in Scotland.
Macdonald was born and briefly raised in Glasgow, a fact that does not sit well with many of the patriotic anti-immigration group members who insist that any form of public recognition are not reserved for foreigners.
“That haggis-munching Sawney wasn’t even born here,” decried one protester wearing a “Canada First” t-shirt. “I don’t support celebrating any outsider from coming into our country and running our affairs just like he did. Canadians are for Canada.”
Groups such as La Meute and Immigration Watch Canada claimed that Macdonald and his family were “illegals” who came over from a poor, unstable land to steal jobs from hard working Canadians, notably the highest office in the country.
Others accused Macdonald and his family of taking advantage of the nation’s 19th century workhouses and its free gruel without providing any further evidence.
“Dedications to this disgusting Scot must be torn down,” said Ross Campbell, a former Heritage Front member who preoccupied himself on his phone looking up derogatory slurs against Scottish people. “This…uh…jockie has got to go.”
Macdonald’s legacy as one of the architects of residential school system was strangely omitted as one of the reasons to tear down the former PM’s statues and plaques.
“I will never support a man whose culture forced its men to wear skirts,” said Alistair Mccabe, a fourth generation Canadian. “We need to stop Scottish immigration immediately all of us will be playing bagpipes and golf.”
