A SENSIBLE DISTANCE FROM HOLLYWOOD – The latest song from universally-acknowledged recording artist “Regular Al” Yankovic has middled out at a respectable 23 on the Billboard music charts.
The song, That Sounds Nice is the new single off Yankovic’s latest album, Wear Sweaters in Winter. The release is the first since last year’s critically accepted I Like to Eat Burgers (But Not Every Day). Yankovic hopes that, as with Burgers and his previous fifteen albums, Sweaters will achieve enough success so that he can live comfortably and keep making music, but as he likes to say, “nothing too crazy.”
“It’s definitely a comfortable feeling,” said “Regular Al” in a phone interview from his practical two-bedroom condo unit. “To know that there are just enough people out there connecting with my music, but not so much as to launch me to superstardom, is a real gift, like a six pack of white socks.”
That Sounds Nice has enjoyed moderate success across all demographics, with the consensus amongst critics being, “Sure, yeah.”
Preparing to embark on his upcoming Midwestern tour and gathering several options for concert costumes at an Eddie Bauer outlet store, “Regular Al” says nothing compares to hearing a fair number of his lyrics sung back to him by a three-quarter-sold audience.
“Well, okay. Not nothing!” he added. “Sorry for exaggerating there.”
