MONTREAL – Montreal’s mayor Denis Coderre announced the municipal government will be spending $3.45 million on installing pure marble speed bumps to celebrate the city’s 375th anniversary.
The smooth marble slabs will be imported from Greece, Italy, and Macedonia and will be installed sporadically throughout the city.
“For every sudden bump motorists feel when they drive over these marble speed ramps at 90km/h, they will be reminded of our history,” announced Coderre.
Each pure white, fine grained traffic calming device will be named after some of the most important figures in Montreal’s history including the Grey Nuns, Gilles Villeneuve, and the Rizzuto Crime Family.
According to sources, the price of the historical-themed traffic project has now doubled and will not be ready for the 375th anniversary.
