OTTAWA—In the wake of Hillary Clinton’s success in clinching the democratic nomination for President, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is reportedly “very much looking forward” to discussing his celebrated embrace of feminism with the candidate in hopes she will follow his leadership.
“I am really, really looking forward to explaining to Mrs. Clinton all about the difficulties women face in being taken seriously and accomplishing their dreams,” said the Prime Minister, who experienced an enormous wave of popularity following his identification as a feminist.
Trudeau’s supporters were thrilled to hear the news. “Sometimes it takes a lot of courage, but we’re so proud to have a prime minister fighting for women’s rights, and I hope Hillary will be able to put her ego aside and listen to this important message,” one fan stated.
Trudeau hopes to be able to sit down with Clinton and share with her his experiences in watching how difficult it can be for women to run for office, and how she as a politician can be an ally to women no matter what her status. He also plans on encouraging her to explore the works of prominent feminist figures such as Gloria Steinem, Judith Butler, and Oprah.
This couldn’t come at a better time for Hillary Clinton, who has had an uphill battle winning supporters, in particular younger voters with more progressive ideals. “I’ve been nothing but surprised and encouraged by how welcoming and grateful people can be if you just stand up and call yourself an advocate of women’s rights,” one women’s rights advocate said. “I’m honestly at a bit of a loss to see why Hillary Clinton hasn’t managed to tap into this movement sooner. Maybe if she spent a little more time discussing the importance of standing up for our wives, mothers and daughters and less time going after paid family leave, people wouldn’t be so distracted by how shrill and braggy she is.”
A Clinton aide was cautiously hopeful about the potential for the candidate to grow her popularity by adopting feminist values in the manner of Trudeau. “Feminism isn’t something you can expect people to get—it’s something you have to really talk about and take credit for.“
