WHITEHORSE – Extolling the breathtaking beauty of Whitehorse’s urban wilderness, Yukon Parks has unveiled its newest campground located in the Walmart parking lot between Quartz Road and Chilkoot Way.
Campers will be able to watch and enjoy the local ecosystem such as the blue-coated cashier, the wondering shopping cart, and, of course, the common Yukon shit-parker. Those staying for a while can hike through the aisles of the store and explore the natural habitat of an American multinational retail corporation in a different country. However, visitors should be prepared to hike for at least two minutes in direct sunlight across the flat prairie of asphalt before reaching the doors.
“Wow, this is exactly like our Walmart except in a different location,” said Harold Shaffer, a retiree from Montana, who made the 4,000 km expedition up to Whitehorse in his massive RV with his wife just to see the new park. “And according to this brochure, this parking lot used to be a wetland completely inaccessible to shoppers until it was paved over.”
The Walmart site was selected because of its cultural heritage features which commemorates the early RV settlers who first started to colonize the parking lot dating back to the summer of 2002, less than a year when the big-box store first opened in Yukon’s capital.
“They were the true pioneers,” explained Yukon Park Officer Sunny Haberdasher. “None had access to the internet back then. It’s incredible that they managed to survive a single night.”
While Yukon Parks are encouraging people to enjoy their stay, they are reminding the public never to approach an aggressive bargain hunter especially during a sale.
“Whenever you are confronted by a bargain hunter, let go of the item and walk away slowly, not making eye contact,” added Haverdasher.
According to sources, the curious tourists were busy exploring other unique Whitehorse landmarks such as Boston Pizza and one of the two Starbucks.
