WHITEHORSE — Yukoners were still unaware of the details about a recent study by the Canadian Internet Registration Authority since many were still waiting for their internet browser to load.
Had their internet been functioning at the most basic speed, thousands of Yukoners would be angered, but not surprised to discover their internet speed is the slowest in the country and twice as slow as their neighbours in the NWT.
“Ugh, this again,” expressed Irene Dell, a client of Northwestel who had been waiting over ten minutes to read the study. “I pay over $100 a month for this; what is going on? I’ve clicked reload twice already, but nothing is coming up!”
Others waited patiently staring at a blank webpage on Chrome, Firefox, or Explorer while trying to upload the brief 22 page report on how the territory best known for the Klondike Gold Rush was still stuck in that same late-19th century era when it comes to technology.
“Maybe I should finish the PhD thesis while I wait,” reflected John Smeert who has yet to find out that he has paid over $400 this year and counting for a service that underperforms its counterparts in Somalia.
In related news, the Territory has announced the shortlist for territorial mottos including ‘Yukon: where the mail is still faster than the internet’ and ‘Yukon: Is your internet out too?’
