TORONTO – In order to meet its budgetary demands, the Toronto Transit Commission announced that it will be increasing its fares starting next week, but only for the rush 17-hours that last from approximately 6:00 am to 11:00 pm every day.
“We are doing this out of necessity, not because we like to,” said Andrew Byford, Chief Executive Officer of the TTC. “But luckily, the only customers that will be affected by the new rates are those who use the system when roads are most congested, that is, from early in the morning to late in the evening, and only on weekdays and weekends.”
“Plus, if you’re not an adult, child, student or senior, you are exempt from this change,” added Byford.
Almost simultaneously, the city of Toronto announced a new property tax that promises only to affect people who own or possess things.
