The Canadian Blood Services added their first zero-emission vehicle to their fleet of mobile donation labs with the BlooDrive 1, a van that gets 100% of it’s energy from the human blood it collects.
“The Bloodrive is a game-changer for climate change,” said Dr. Vladimir Jones of the University of Waterloo hemotechnology lab. “It’s a crucial first step in ending our dependence on dirty fossil fuels, and democratizing the energy sector. In the future there will be no more human blood spilled to win wars for oil. Because human blood is now oil.”
On its first day out on the street and taking donations, the Blood Services staff say they are pleased with how the BlooDrive 1 handles.
“I was surprised,” said Julie Mathews, a registered nurse for Canadian Blood Services. “It was just like driving any of the other vans, although I wish it didn’t make that screaming sound when you turn it on.”
The groundbreaking engine inside the new clean energy vehicle looks almost identical to a regular engine, but instead of using carbon emitting gasoline or diesel, it uses fully sustainable, abundant and readily harvested human blood, releasing only biodegradable plasma into the atmosphere and on to the road.
When asked if the BlooDrive 1 had to use human blood, Dr. Jones said, “Yes, it HAS to be human blood.”
Dr. Jones elaborated that future research is being conducted to refine the process. But there is currently an urgent need for type O blood from people who “have not yet engaged in the flesh of another.”
Meanwhile, Canadian Blood Services says the demand for all blood is at an all time high and have launched their new ad slogan, “Blood: It’s in you to burn.”
Back at the BlooDrive, nurse Matthews is happy that there was a good turn-out for donations.
“I am so happy that people came out to give just enough blood so we could get home,” she said. “Good thing we picked up that hitchhiker on the way over.“
