TORONTO – In an effort to attract more talent, the CBC has stated that embattled British television presenter Jeremy Clarkson, host of the hit show Top Gear, would be allowed to punch any of the CBC’s staff if he were to sign-on with Canada’s public broadcaster.
“Here at the CBC, we encourage talented personalities like Jeremy Clarkson to be free to express their independence without being hindered by things like investigations, suspensions or a polite letter asking him not to strike his employees,” said Head of Media Strategy, Janice Henderson, in a press release.
“Punch producers. Punch PA’s. Punch the caterer. Whatever! Just please come to the CBC,” Henderson added.
Henderson noted that Clarkson need only look at CBC’s record to understand the star culture at the corporation.
“Punching is nothing! We let Amanda Lang compromise the whole integrity of the CBC’s journalistic reputation, we let Jian Ghomeshi just be Jian Ghomeshi for years, we let Mr. Dressup… Oh wait… You don’t know about that,” said Henderson, who then explained that she had to go and immediately hung up the phone.
At press time, the CBC was in talks with Ray Rice to host a new sports show.
