VANCOUVER – In lieu of doing proper preparation for a complicated surgery scheduled this afternoon, neurosurgeon Dr. James Rutherford, a recent graduate from UBC’s Faculty of Medicine, has decided to just “wing it.”
“Look, I got through eight, what was it?, ten years of med-school with this approach, and it got me this far,” Rutherford said while thumbing through an illustrated text-book of brain anatomy. “I got almost straight B-minuses. I think I’ll be fine with one procedure.
Added Rutherford: “It’s just brain surgery; it’s not rocket science.”
Rutherford explained that this would be an “open-book” surgery, and that he would bring some textbooks as well as his cellphone so he could “Google his way through the tricky parts.”
“Also,” he continued, “there’s, like, a co-surgeon, right? Like in planes? I can just let that guy take the lead. Gotta get his feet wet some day. He’ll thank me later.”
Rutherford was last seen discussing techniques to repair cerebrospinal fluid leaks with another surgeon minutes before the procedure under the guise of “just making conversation.”
