TORONTO – For the first time in probably at least a few years based on everybody’s reaction the Toronto Raptors will be heading to the NBA playoffs this spring.
“Everyone counted us out at the beginning, but I told our guys that if we work together and believe in ourselves, then we will surprise the world. And now we have,” said the satisfied and surprisingly diminutive head coach who is apparently not Butch Carter or Sam Mitchell.
This team will be the first to play post-season basketball for Toronto since the glory days when Vince Carter Chris Bosh was the unquestioned leader of the team. This year the Raptors will have to rally behind a core of that short, energetic guy who jumps around a lot, the shooting guard who wears number 10 or 11 I’m pretty sure, and that tall white european who isn’t the guy we liked and then hated a couple years ago.
“After this year, everybody is going to know about us,” said one of them.
At press time, depressed Leafs fans preparing to jump on the Raptor bandwagon were very intrigued by the concept of a team winning its division.
