BRAMPTON – Attendees left last Saturday’s TEDxBrampton event inspired by John McGeorge’s innovative four-point synergistical plan to solve third world hunger in the first world.
In a 12 minute speech accompanied by 8 snazzy PowerPoint slides, McGeorge confidently declared that “sending aid to the Third World is so 2013.”
“What these countries really need is more collaborative creativical thinking,” the 27-year old iPhone app designer explained, “we just need to change the mindset.”
“He opened my eyes to all the ways we could leverage the knowledge economy and the diverse characteristics of our neighbourhoods to ensure that starvation isn’t sent abroad,” enthused Geoff Johnson, 32. “It’s such a relief to know that all of Africa’s problems have been solved!”
“McGeorge is such an excellent speaker,” added Caroline McPhee. “I was so caught up applauding that I couldn’t keep track of everything he said. I now have so many solutions that I’m going to go home and find problems to go with them.”
Conference organizer Herbert Irwin declared “Growling Minds, Quiet Stomachs” to be the best of the 2,000 TED talks he has watched on YouTube.
“Much of the crowd was so busy networking and discussing what they had heard that they forgot to stop by the buffet for lunch,” Irwin recalled, beaming. “As I threw out the remaining 300 servings of quinoa, I knew that we had really seen something special.”
