HAMILTON – A nearby Salvation Army store has failed to live up to the expectations set by the “Thrift Shop” music video for local man Jake Covey.
“The video made it seem like there was something glamorous about wearing clothes that smelled like urine,” said Covey. “But . . . no. . .”
Sources say that the store, empty except for the woman at the checkout counter and the one man weeping audibly by the VHS tapes, lacks any of the quirky, upbeat charm that made “Thrift Shop” a number one Billboard hit in 2012.
“I’ve only got twenty dollars in my pocket,” said Mr. Chen, the man by the VHS tapes. “How am I going to make rent this month?”
Covey says that he is less interested in taking somebody’s “Grandpa’s Style” now that he has thought about whether or not their grandfather actually died in those clothes.
