CLEVELAND – Following a 2-hour show by indie rock group Afterglow Green, local concertgoers were absolutely dumbfounded as the musicians returned to the stage and played new, additional songs.
“I have absolutely no frame of reference for what is happening right now,” exclaimed Stephen Weeks, local music fan and audience member. “They came out and played a concert – I get that. And then they played their last song and walked off stage, finishing the show – Fine. But whatever they did after that blew my goddamn mind!”
Baffled concertgoers reported that the musicians picked up their instruments and launched into a second set of songs, which had coincidentally not been played during the preceding show.
“I guess we just cheered so loud after their set that the band decided on a whim to come out and play more,” said Taylor Abrahmse before adding “Its like our applause pulled them back onstage!”
Audience reactions reportedly ranged from utter jubilation at the prospect of further songs played, to dismay and even existential terror at the implications of the decision.
“On one hand I’m happy because I waited all show for them to play ‘Foxtrot Flames’, and they did play it after returning,” said Amanda Campbell, “but on the other hand I’m totally confused – is the concert over, or is it still going on? What does any of this even mean?”
Reached for comment at the nearby Cleveland State University, professor of physics Dr. Kenneth Martindale offers this possible explanation: “This recent Afterglow Green concert challenges our very notions of quantum states of being. With the concert having concluded, but the band returning to the stage to continue ‘rocking out’, this additional concert or ‘Schrödinger’s Set’ would appear to be simultaneously ‘finished’ and ‘not finished’. Fascinating!”
As of press time, Afterglow Green has offered no explanation for what possessed them to return to the stage for continue playing, or why they returned for two more subsequent sets.
