TORONTO – Newly appointed Raptors GM Masai Ujiri, at a press conference announcing his hiring over the weekend, made clear his intention to rebuild the team from its current horrible state all the way back to the “pretty okay” teams of previous years.
“I want to promise our fans that if we make a few smart trades, stay under the cap and draft well, then we can get back to being a team that makes the playoffs and loses the first round in 6 games,” the 44 year old Nigerian born executive said.
“We get on a hot streak and then, boom, all the way to the heights of the eastern conference semi-finals!” he added.
Ujiri would not comment what specific moves he would make as G.M., though he admitted the focus would be on replacing the current group of players with those that are “better.”
Andrea Bargnani celebrated the new appointment by almost getting a rebound during a team scrimmage.
