BRAMPTON, ON- Looking to get all the latest tips, tricks and fashions, Brampton woman, Doreen McFay, is using popular app Pinterest to plan her perfect hysterectomy.
She is part of a growing trend of women who are ditching traditional hysterectomy party planners and DIY-ing the day of their elective surgery to make it one they’ll remember forever.
The popular app allows women to collect and share images on a Pinboard organized into themes, like weddings, birthdays – and increasingly – hysterectomies.
McFay explains, “my gallery is just full of gynaecological inspirational quotes, artisanal intrauterine ultrasounds, organic surgery staples and homemade iodine.”
Studies show that a hysterectomy can cost anywhere between $5000-$11000 dollars, and that’s before private rooms, catering, and champagne.
The average woman typically waits 6 months before their non-essential hysterectomy, but some Pinterest experts recommend starting the pinning and planning at least a year in advance. Often finding the perfect venue is the biggest challenge, as natural light, modern décor and high ceilings are key for beautiful post-surgery photos.
“I think whatever your budget, you deserve to make the day of your major surgery into a beautiful and lavish one. And the key is planning the festivities yourself,” said McFay.
“Not every woman will get a hysterectomy, but every little girl dreams of the day when she takes out parts of her reproductive organs in style,” said Mcfay, as she crafted paper uteruses and painted mason jars “fallopian pink” for her Hysterectomy Shower.
