NEW YORK — Just days after declaring “total war” on GOP frontrunner Donald Trump, hacker collective Anonymous has wasted no time in accusing dozens of private citizens around the world of being the controversial New York billionaire.
The hacktivist group – whose numerous online campaigns have included wrongfully accusing police dispatcher Bryan Willman of shooting Michael Brown, and wrongfully accusing a Vancouver man of being Amanda Todd’s tormentor – have now set their sights firmly on Trump, wrongfully accusing, doxxing and profiling over 40 people suspected of being the controversial candidate and reality star.
“Mr. Trump, your bigotry and dishonesty has earned you the wrath of Anonymous,” said a masked spokesperson for the group that once incorrectly accused numerous people of being members of the Ku Klux Klan, “we possess a tireless devotion to exposing the enemies of justice and freedom, and the ability to do so correctly a terrifying 30% of the time.”
The real Trump – easily identifiable due to his distinct appearance and ubiquitous media presence – has nonetheless proved an elusive target for the group. “It’s very frustrating,” said one suspected Trump, 58-year-old Vera Nunez of Palo Alto, California, “All day I’ve been getting calls from friends, ‘are you Donald Trump? The internet says you’re Donald Trump, why do you want to put that wall up?’ I don’t! I’m Mexican, why would I want that?”
“I don’t know what to say, I’m not Donald Trump. And neither is my granddaughter,” she added, in an attempt to clear the name of fellow potential Trump Katie Nunez, age 2.
The numerous accused are growing impatient for the group to issue retractions. “I just want to tell them, you know, he’s on TV, all the time! He doesn’t live at my address, he lives in that giant building with his name on it! Besides, you guys already did me, remember?” said another alleged Trump, police dispatcher Bryan Willman.
For his part, Mr. Trump has publicly denounced any connection between himself and those accused of being him by Anonymous – with the exception of those also accused of being in the Ku Klux Klan, whom he has refused to judge too quickly.
